Options 2014 in the SRSS Gym
Steinbach Regional Secondary School held it's annual Options Day yesterday.
Students gather around Canadian Armed Forces booth Grade 12 Guidance Counsellor Michael Thiessen explains Options Day is when students get an opportunity to speak with post-secondary institution representatives and get an idea of what different school programs looks like. Thiessen adds this year there were 25 institutions from Manitoba and across Western Canada.
Thiessen says it's a great opportunity for students to look at schools in Western Canada that they otherwise wouldn't be able to visit as easily. Students also have a schedule during the day to help take in the event.
“We have three presentation sessions and one booth session arrangement so the students will be in two presentations to start. Then they'll get a chance over their lunch to go through the gym where there's a number of booths set up. And then they'll finish the day with a third presentation.”
Thiessen adds presentations are only from Manitoba schools.
There was also a parent information night where parents got the opportunity to hear short presentations from each Manitoba post-secondary institution and tour the booths in the gym.
