Southeast Helping Hands and Farm Credit Canada at the 2014 Pioneer Days Parade
Collection of non-perishable food items for South East Helping Hands starts on Tuesday.
Spokesperson for Farm Credit Canada Wade Nebras explains there are two days this week when youth will be out in the community. Tuesday, October 15th youth will be in Blumenort and then on Wednesday, October 16th youth will be in Mitchell and Steinbach going door-to-door collecting non-perishable food items.
“We got two tracker rigs going out, two trailer rigs and two enterprise vans. The sponsorship in this community is awesome. Whatever I need I ask for and they just provide. It's just amazing to me that, that happens.”
Hank Klassen from Southeast Helping Hands says he's thankful for the help from Farm Credit Canada during food drive events and the transportation that's provided. Klassen explains their food supply is at an all-time low right now.
“We need to have everybody pitch in and help out by putting the food out by the door so people can come around and pick it up.”
Anything non-perishable can be given and Klassen adds there are items they could use more than others right now.
“There's pasta, canned vegetables and canned soups especially tomato. Vegetables out of the garden, we're very happy to take those right now. Any non-perishable item right now. Crackers, we don't have any crackers and it's the simplest thing.”
Klassen notes group leaders will have identification cards with them this year to help clarify the organization they're gather food items on behalf of.
