Jeremy Cowart: A Photographer's Life in Focus

Looking back, Nashville photographer Jeremy Cowart's career was a happy accident.


He was a painter who realized painting likely wouldn't be a way to make a living. So he explored graphic design and dabbled in album covers for his musician friends, like Matt Wertz and Dave Barnes. When digital photography emerged as a new technology, Cowart picked up a basic camera to incorporate stills into his design. His friends' record labels started hiring him for other artists and shows. In 2005, Cowart signed with an agent — someone he had beaten for a job — who helped him break out of the Nashville bubble and into L.A.'s photography scene.
