New Rink Almost Ready For Curlers

2014 10 curling

If all goes according to plan, curlers in Steinbach will be throwing rocks at the new rink in a week. That, according to Steinbach Operations Manager Paul Penner who says they're hoping to get their occupancy permit by the end of the week.

"The rink part is almost done, just the final touches," says Penner. "The rest of the lobby areas and stuff we're doing flooring, painting and most of the life safety is all done."

Penner adds the Curling Club has already started to make ice. He notes they're right on schedule with this project, as the original schedule had them take possession by mid to late October. The same can't be said for the theatre however.

"The theatre is about a month behind," notes Penner. "And also the link between the curling rink and arena is also about two to three weeks behind."

Penner says it's been a massive undertaking and conditions were extremely cold when they first started construction. He notes those are the main reasons for the delay.
